***Freebie*** DIY Newspaper Wedding Program Template

October 30, 2017

November is just around the corner and David and I will be celebrating our fourth (I can’t believe its already been that long!) wedding anniversary! If you’ve read my previous post, then you already know that I wanted to share some DIYs and projects that I made for our wedding to celebrate as our anniversary date gets closer! The first DIY I wanted to share with you is our Newspaper Wedding program and a link so you can download my template to make your own!

I know I COULD have just ordered some wedding programs…. and call it a day…. But the DIYer inside of me just couldn’t NOT do them myself.

I know sitting in the crowd too long waiting for the wedding ceremony to start … people can start getting a little anxious (or if they’re brave enough to say it …. “bored!”). And then all your left with is reading the bridal party names 1342398572385735 times. LOL, I know I’ve been there! I wanted to do something a little more FUN. I wanted to give everyone a little something more to read and then maybe they would only have to read it 1342398572385734 times before the ceremony starts. LOL.

So I had researched other “newspaper wedding programs” for inspo and for a “title” to name the newspaper. I decided to go with “The Daily Proposal” and on the front page I put a short paragraph, or so, about how David popped the question. I also included a side bar with the “top stories” AKA some highlights that all our wedding guests could find in their program. At the bottom, I threw in an “editorial” section describing how thankful we were of everyone coming to celebrate with us!

On the next page, the left column has our “featured contributors” AKA our bridal party line up! (We had a very large one!) 10 Groomsmen, 10 Bridesmaids, parents of the bride, parents of the groom, grandparents, godparents, ring barer, flower girls, ushers…. you would find them all here!

Under “Entertainment” I gave an outline of the events that our guests could expect during our wedding ceremony leading all the way up to PARTY TIME!

I also thought adding a “Real Estate” section in my newspaper wedding program would be a fun, creative and easy way to give all our family and friends the address to our first home! And encourage them to stop by if they were ever in the neighborhood!

Any good newspaper has a funnies section! I chose to include a funny wedding cartoon AND instructions guest could use to turn their wedding programs into paper airplanes!! You know, incase anyone got bored waiting for the wedding to start! lol!

Under The “Get To Know The Newly Weds” section, I wrote some fun and funny facts about David and I with a row of our engagement photos at the bottom.

Okay, so we got married RIGHT before “wedding hashtags” were a thang. But we did have “apps”. So on the back page, we encouraged our guest to download a free wedding app …type in our profile name….join…enter their info….and play I SPY by taking pictures saving the photos to the app so everyone can see them. Whew…. a wedding hashtag would have been much easier HAHA! But it was before our time!! HAHAH “before our time….” Am I starting to get old? YIKES.

ANYWAYS…. a lot of people were excited to play and we did get tons of photos that way! So maybe when you download my ***Freebie*** Newspaper Wedding Program Template, in this section you can just put your wedding hashtag!

Unfortunately, there were some people very dear to us that have moved on and could not be at our wedding. We added an “In Loving Memory” section on our program so everyone there would know how much we would have loved for them to be there and that we were thinking about and missing them!

And Finally, David and I are all about sharing and giving credit where credit is due, so we added a service directory at the end because we, as most married couples, know weddings are not a one man job. So, if anyone loved the cake, food, DJ, photographer, etc. they could easily reference them in the “service directory” of their newspaper .

And that was our newspaper wedding program! David and I got tons of compliments from our guests about how much they loved our newspaper programs and getting to know more about us and our story! I hope you did too and will consider using a newspaper wedding program for your big day!
